Bernard Touati: Optimize the biology and tissue behaviour | Nobel Biocare

Although widely used by clinicians, healing abutments are far from ideal from a biological standpoint, since they are often disconnected and destined to be replaced, a wound is re-opened each time through the body shell. So-called healing abutments are actually “hurting” components.

One Abutment-One Time is acknowledged in the literature for preserving peri-implant tissues, yet this concept is hardly implemented in daily routine, it’s neither applicable to screw-retained single restorations nor to extraction sites in the esthetic zone, to name a few. On1 is a One-Base concept which will be described in this presentation. Replacing healing abutments the On1 bases can turn into prosthetic abutments without any disconnection; they can also hold temporary abutments, body scans, or allow screw-retained restorative solutions. By transferring the platform/restorative interface to the soft-tissue level the On1 concept is both biological, prosthetically versatile and user friendly.
